Becoming Leaders of Innovation
This workshop, based on Dr. David Weiss’ co-authored book Innovative Intelligence (Wiley) and his subsequent innovation and design thinking work, describes how leaders can become leaders of innovation and how leaders can avoid thinking traps that can limit innovative thinking. This virtual workshop will explore the following:
- What does it mean to become a leader of innovation?
- What kinds of innovative thinking capacities are needed for complicated and complex issues?
- What are the traps to avoid that may limit innovative thinking?
Ontario Collaborative Innovation Platform (OCIP)
The Ontario Collaborative Innovation Platform (OCIP), launched by eCampusOntario, supports research partnerships between companies and Ontario’s public postsecondary institutions (PSIs). OCIP is a matchmaking service which helps Ontario businesses find R&D support, workforce training and IP support with Ontario’s 53 colleges, universities and Indigenous Institutes.

Dr. David Weiss, Ph.D., ICD.D is President and CEO of Weiss International Ltd., a firm specializing in innovation consulting, leadership coaching, and HR solutions for the public-sector, social enterprise, and private sector organizations.
David has provided consulting on more than 1000 business, organizational, and HR projects, delivered over 200 conference presentations and he has written over 60 journal and trade articles. He is the author or co-author of seven books including Leadership-Driven HR (Jossey-Bass) and Innovative Intelligence (Wiley, also available in Chinese) which was reported by CBC News as a “top 5 business book” in the year it was published. Previously, Affiliate Professor of the Rotman School of Management, Senior Research Fellow at Queen’s University, and VP and Chief Innovation Officer of Knightsbridge, David currently teaches at two university executive development programs, Schulich School of Management, and St. Mary’s University.

Peter Carr’s work focuses on the impact of information technology in business and society – the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
He is the author and instructor of the Watspeed Digital Transformation program and provides guidance to organizations on how they can effectively apply digital transformation. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Management Sciences in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo where he teaches courses in the Impact of Information Technology in Society, the Strategic Management of Technology, Project Management, Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Operations and Supply Chain Management.
