eCampusOntario Welcomes Historic Ontario Postsecondary Investment

New Funding Model Empowers Member Institutions to Equip Learners for the Future of Work

New Funding Model Empowers Member Institutions to Equip Learners for the Future of Work

TORONTO — eCampusOntario welcomes the Ontario government’s landmark announcement of $6.4 billion in new funding for colleges, universities, and Indigenous Institutes, marking a transformative step toward a resilient and competitive provincial economy. This strategic investment will enable eCampusOntario’s member institutions to connect learners with the advanced skills required for the evolving realities of the global workforce, while ensuring accessible, high-quality education for all Ontarians.

“This funding is a catalyst for innovation in education,” said Dr. Robert Luke, CEO of eCampusOntario. “By empowering our member institutions with predictable, enhanced resources, Ontario is investing directly in the talent and adaptability of its people. Our Indigenous Institutes, colleges, universities, will be better positioned to deliver programs that align with labour market demands, harness world-class research, and foster digital and experiential learning pathways that prepare students for in-demand careers.”

The new long-term funding model, which increases annual operating funding to a record $7 billion, supports the creation of 70,000 more in-demand seats and also addresses the unique needs of small, rural, northern, French-language, and Indigenous Institutes. This approach will help ensure that learners across Ontario—regardless of background or geography—have access to the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in a dynamic economy.

eCampusOntario recognizes the government’s commitment to keeping education accessible and affordable. The updated tuition framework, with modest increases capped at 2 per cent, alongside enhanced financial supports like the Student Access Guarantee (SAG), will help remove financial barriers for low-income students. This ensures that talent and ambition remain the driving forces behind Ontario’s competitiveness, not financial circumstance.

“Ontario’s vision for a sustainable, forward-looking postsecondary sector directly aligns with eCampusOntario’s mission to foster innovation and digital transformation in learning,” added Dr. Luke. “As the world economy shifts, our member institutions will continue to connect learners with future-ready skills, making Ontario a leader in workforce resilience and adaptability. With tools such as eCampusOntario’s Skills for Jobs Canada and the Ontario Micro-credentials Portal platforms, in partnership with our members we can set job seekers up for success.”

eCampusOntario looks forward to working alongside government and institutional partners to implement these changes, supporting learners and educators as they navigate the new realities of work and learning.
