Supporting Mental Health This Winter: Learning Opportunities for Everyone
Winter can be a challenging season for mental health. Shorter days, colder weather, and the demands of work and life can make it harder to prioritize well-being. That’s why this winter season, Ontario colleges and universities are offering a range of micro-credentials designed to help individuals and professionals strengthen their mental health skills and support others in their communities.
We’ve rounded up a mix of opportunities—starting with two programs open to anyone, followed by industry-specific courses tailored to practitioners in education, health care, and mental health services.
Open to Everyone
Supporting Employee Mental Health and Well-Being
- Starts January
- Conestoga College
Developed in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness, and Performance, this four-course micro-credential series equips people leaders and managers with strategies to understand and support the mental health needs of their employees.
Developing Emotional Resiliency and Self-Care
- Self-paced, start anytime
- Sault College
This flexible program introduces learners to the “7 C’s” of resiliency and four pillars of self-leadership, offering practical tools to avoid burnout and fatigue.
For Postsecondary Educators
Early Childhood Mental Health
- Starts February 18
- Seneca Polytechnic
Designed for early childhood education students and professionals, this program builds competencies to identify mental health risk and protective factors and recommend effective child and family support strategies.
Building Inclusive and Equitable Practices within Mental Health
- Starts January 12
- Ontario Tech University
Tailored for health care professionals, this course equips learners with strategies to advocate for patients by understanding their identities and unique challenges, while addressing systemic barriers to care.
Mental Health for Nurse Practitioners 2
- Starts January 26
- University of Toronto
Developed in collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, this interactive, case-based course helps practitioners assess and develop treatment plans for individuals with mental health and addictions issues. It is part of a four-course certificate in Mental Health and Addictions for Nurse Practitioners.
Micro-credential in Private Practice for Mental Health Professionals: Entrepreneurial Planning (French language)

This program is designed for professionals who want to launch or optimize their own mental health practice. It is part of a three-course series that also covers financial/regulatory management and marketing/human resources.
