The eCampusOntario Board of Directors is seeking nominations for the following position:

About eCampusOntario
eCampusOntario is a not-for-profit corporation whose membership is composed of publicly-assisted Indigenous Institutes, Colleges and Universities in Ontario. eCampusOntario is governed by a Board of Directors with tripartite leadership from each postsecondary sector. Operations are headed by a Chief Executive Officer. Funding for the eCampusOntario initiative comes from the Government of Ontario and Canada.
The organization works to support sector innovation, collaboration and digital-by-design learning. We provide the platforms, programs and services to advance digital participation in postsecondary education, connecting Ontario’s postsecondary institutions and learners to the future of learning and the future of work.
Board of Directors
eCampusOntario is governed by a 17 (voting) member Board of Directors with representation from Ontario Indigenous Institutes, colleges and universities.
- One President of an Indigenous Institute;
- One President of a College;
- One President of a University
- Two Vice Presidents Academic (or equivalent) of a University;
- Two Vice Presidents Academic (or equivalent) of a College;
- One member of an Indigenous Institute
- Three students with experience in online or technology-enabled learning, one of whom is currently enrolled in an Indigenous Institute, another in a College, and one of whom is currently enrolled in a University.
- Two senior administrators with expertise in online learning, one of whom is employed at a College and one of whom is employed at a University
- Two online learning experts, one of whom is employed at a College and one of whom is employed at a University;
- Two representatives of the public, one of whom has experience in financial, audit and/or risk management.
The eCampusOntario Board also has six ex-officio, or non-voting, representatives.
- A representative from ONCAT
- A representative from Contact North
- A representative from IIC
- A representative from IAESC
- A representative from Colleges Ontario
- A representative from Council of Ontario Universities
Role of Board Members
The eCampusOntario Board of Directors meets five times annually to provide oversight and contribute to the strategic direction of the organization. It is expected that Directors come to meetings prepared to engage in discussion. Directors serve without remuneration. All meetings are virtual with the exception of the June Board Retreat. All Directors serve a three-year term, with an option to renew once.
Board members act as organizational ambassadors in their respective sector areas, and from time to time connect the organization with advice, resources and expertise as appropriate to help strengthen eCampusOntario initiatives and strategic guidance.
The following characteristics describe an individual who would be well-suited to serve eCampusOntario on its Board of Directors in this position:
Qualifications
- Is not employed by any publicly-assisted Ontario Indigenous Institute, College or University
- Has a background in the organization’s domain of practice in technology-enabled learning
- Experience or expertise in one of the following areas would be advantageous to the eCampusOntario Board:
- service on the Board of a similar, publicly-funded organization
- work in the public or not-for-profit sector
- Commitment to fully participate in all Board meetings (including having read any background materials) and related professional development activities
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality of eCampusOntario’s operations
- No conflict of interest, real or perceived—for example, direct affiliation with an organization that could be seen to gain an unfair competitive/commercial advantage from involvement with the eCampusOntario Board
- Supports the organization’s vision but is flexible to the possibilities of change
- Commitment to the mission of the organization
- Able to strengthen the organization because of the expertise they bring from a professional background
- Adds diversity to the mix of individuals comprising the Board, including age, culture, language, gender, background, expertise, and passion
- Informed, available, and engaged; willing to attend meetings and represent the organization or its interests with government, at community events, and with colleagues across the sector
- Is a conscientious steward who is interested in the process of developing the organization and monitoring its health and sustainability by promoting its programs and services
The Directors serve without remuneration for their time and contributions, but are reimbursed for any out-of-pocket expenses properly incurred (e.g. travel, accommodations) to attend Directors’ meetings or otherwise perform the duties of a Director.
