Senior Analyst, Finance
Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Finance and Administration, the Senior Analyst, Finance will assist in the creation of and responsibility of the on-going reporting of all eCampusOntario transfer payment agreements (TPAs) and provide financial and technical support to ensure timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reports, monitoring project expenses, and contributing to the organizational budgeting and forecasting process.
Accountabilities, Duties and Responsibilities
Finance
- Co-lead in development of budgets to ensure that expenses are allocated appropriately in order to identify variances with root causes. Supported by the Head of Finance and Administration, explain financial impacts on business unit budgets to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and business unit leaders, respectively
- Oversee Accounts Payable (A/P) activities such as A/P subledger, employee expenses reimbursement and monitor A/P aging reports and ensure to pay vendors and reimburse employees expenses in an accurate and timely manner.
- Act as a backup of Accounts Payable administrator.
- Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger, proper cost allocations and the Chart of Accounts.
- Responsible for leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting processes including preparing general ledger journal entries, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Monitor cash activities in the bank account(s) daily, and compile cash flow forecast module monthly, and multiple accounting cycles when required.
- Compile financial working paper, perform financial statements reconciliations, financial reporting for budget, actual, forecast and conduct financial analysis monthly, and multiple accounting cycles.
- Lead comprehensive semi-annual and year-end reviews across the organization, including performing numerous and complex levels of financial statement analysis and providing recommendations.
- Support business units and projects leads in understanding the funding sources, perform and evaluate the project budget allocations, budget vs actual variances analysis and monitoring the forecast assumption and project variance.
- Play a key role on internal and external audits including preparation of working papers, schedules and providing supporting documents required for the audits.
- Participate in the drafting and/or overseeing the adherence of internal control policies and procedures.
- Co-lead the preparation and presentation of the Finance Team in the organization-wide sessions on various finance and operations-related topics.
- Act as backup for semi-monthly eCampusOntario payroll processing.
- Other ad-hoc duties as required.
Administration
- Support the Finance and Administration team with in-person operations of the eCampusOntario office, as required.
Procurement
- Assist in ensuring the procurement of goods and services are managed effectively and in accordance with the Broader Public Sector (BPS) Accountability Act and the BPS Procurement Directive.
- Participate in drafting, reviewing and updating procurement policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Professional Designations and Development
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in the areas of Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Chartered Professional Accountant Designation, or in final stages of obtaining required.
Experience
- Five (5) years of experience in financial accounting, including minimum 2 years of experience in Accounts Payable, and 3 years or more in financial reporting and analysis.
- Solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards and practices, analysis, and reporting.
- Non-profit experience considered an asset.
- Procurement experience considered an asset.
- Experience of the post-secondary education sector in Ontario an asset.
Skills
- Proficiency with accounting software such as NetSuite or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and planning skills along with critical thinking and good decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong attention to detail, high degree of accuracy in all work, and commitment to quality.
- Ability to handle large volume of transactions.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and vendors.
- Ability to work independently and also function as part of a team.
- Commitment to customer service, with a strong sense of confidentiality, professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and good judgement.
- Ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders; requires patience and diplomacy in order to provide support.

Hybrid Work Model
This position is based out of the eCampusOntario office in downtown Toronto, where our hybrid work model includes both in-person and remote work opportunities. Our current in-person work requirement is two (2) days per month (minimum) which may be changed at any time to meet our evolving organizational needs.
